On 2 - 3 July, during the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH) 2018, 12 European regions including the South Moravian Region (Representation of SMR to the EU), under the auspices of the ERRIN (European Region and Research and Innovation Network) organised a conference titled “The Road from War to Peace, More Democracy and European Integration. War architecture, places and memories as part of Europe's heritage and history."

The two-day event took place 100 years after the end of World War I, it focused on the wars raging in Europe between 1914 and 1945, as well as other relevant events before and after that period that shaped and changed a European in many ways. The event addressed political as well as educational aspects of memories and memorial sites and explored the role of war memories for our common European History and European Identity and connected stakeholders from nine European countries and offered them the opportunity to cooperate.

On the first day, participants from the regions (the South Moravian Region was represented by the Technical Museum in Brno and Meeting Brno festival)commenced with a commented tour of the House of European History, where the main conference was held. The second day after Sir Christopher Clarke's main speech in the discussion panel on political aspects of war memories, David Macek, deputy director of Meeting Brno festival talked about the festival's activities. The festival takes place in Brno since 2015 and provides a platform for people of different opinions, cultures and religions to meet each other.
